FAQS

WHAT IS DRY HIRING?

Equipment that can be dry hired can be rented without the addition of a Chapman Technician or Specialist Driver.

WHAT EQUIPMENT CAN I DRY HIRE?

All Chapman dollies and Stinger jib arms may be dry hired as long as there is an appropriately trained technician or Grip on the shoot. The same applies to our Aurora, O'Connor 2575 and Fluid 7 Remote Heads.  We do not dry hire any other equipment under any circumstances.

WHAT ABOUT LONG-TERM DOLLY RENTALS?

We offer long-term dolly hire contracts of up to 12 months, subject to availability. After this period if you wish to continue the hire, you may opt to renew the contract or allow it to roll onto a monthly basis.

Long-term dolly hire is subject to a satisfactory credit check and proof of 'hire-in' insurance for the total value of the equipment you wish to rent. If these conditions are met, you will be required to sign a long-term contract and transfer a deposit of £2,500 per dolly up to the first 2 dollies on hire. To see the full terms and conditions of long-term dolly hire from Chapman UK, please contact us.

MY LONG-TERM DOLLY RENTAL HAS AN ISSUE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

As part of the T&Cs of long-term dolly hire, you will be expected to maintain and care for the equipment on a day-to-day basis. This includes paying for repairs or the replacement of missing or damaged parts beyond what can reasonably be considered wear-and-tear.

However, we understand that these things happen, and we will always do everything we can to support our clients. We offer remote assistance over the phone/FaceTime, physical repairs and servicing in our warehouse, and if necessary, we will swap your dolly for a new one (subject to availability), to keep things moving whilst yours is repaired.

WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN BOOKING A TRACKING VEHICLE?

Terrain - road/studio/muddy field etc?  |  Height restrictions (if any)  |  What is being tracked? - walker/runner/animals/vehicles/background shots?  |  Required speeds  |  Recording sound?  |  Mounting a remote head, using Steadicam or handheld?  |  Number of people going in/on the vehicle?

We would always recommend a chat with our Specialist Tracking Drivers in advance of booking to ensure the best vehicle and accessories for the job - call the office for more information.

CAN I BOOK A TRACKING VEHICLE FOR USE ON A PUBLIC ROAD?

If intending to film on public roads, you MUST apply for dispensation from the relevant local authority for your location in advance of shooting. If filming in London, please contact the Metropolitan Police and follow the Metropolitan Police Filming on The Move Guidelines - click here

CAN I TAKE A VIBRATION ISOLATOR ON A PLANE?

Large Vibration Isolators (VIs) cannot be reduced to components which weigh less than 32kg, which means that they are unsuitable for travel on passenger flights. This is not an issue for Medium VIs and often makes them the most popular choice when filming abroad.

WHAT ACCESSORIES COME WITH A MEDIUM VIBRATION ISOLATOR?

A Medium VI kit includes: 1x Medium Vibration Isolator, 1x Castle Nut Spanner, 1x 1/2" Spanner & Gimbal.

Optional but commonly requested additional accessories include: 3" Risers, 6" Risers, 12"Risers, Scaff Mounts & Twin Tube Paddlemounts.

If you are unsure of what you require, just give us a call.

DO YOU OFFER EQUIPMENT TRAINING?

Yes. Please call the office to find out more, as equipment training varies across departments.

HOW DOES INVOICING WORK?

For short-term jobs, you will be invoiced at the end of the job once all equipment has been returned and checked in. For mid & long-term jobs, you will be invoiced every 4 weeks until the hire concludes.*

WHAT IS YOUR COVID-19 POLICY?

Staff: Our first priority is the safety of our colleagues and clients. We are providing PPE and hand sanitising stations for all staff to use. Staff temperatures are recorded every day, and we are operating a reduced rota so that proper social distancing measures can be adhered to.

Visitors: Visitors to Chapman UK are on an essential basis only and all visits must be arranged in advance. All visitors will be required to sign-in, wear a face mask, have their temperature recorded, and use the hand sanitiser provided, without exception.

Warehouse & Equipment: In addition to our regular cleans, we have arranged regular Covid-19 cleans of our entire warehouse, equipment storage areas and office. This involves use of an antiviral fog which settles in a fine layer onto all equipment and surfaces. On top of our usual equipment cleaning procedures, all items of equipment are being thoroughly cleaned and sprayed down with anti-viral mist on entry and exit of our warehouse.

Transport: Our vans and trucks are also being sprayed with anti-viral mist every time they arrive and leave our warehouse, to safely deliver equipment to your location.
